It was January 2020 when I announced here that I’d be directing Ira Levin’s Deathtrap at Millbrook Playhouse that summer…and then the world turned upside down. Here we are in fall 2021, and I’m ever so grateful to be heading back to the barn to complete this circle and do the show, which runs October 22-30. More info here.
Those quotes are from the back of the souvenir program of the original production. I’m thrilled especially to finally do this show. Deathtrap remains Broadway’s longest running thriller. This will be my third thriller at Millbrook (after 2015’s Dial ‘M’ for Murder and 2016’s Wait Until Dark). It’s also my very first chance to work on an Ira Levin play, and as you may know from my Shows for Someday feature in this space on his melodrama Dr. Cook’s Garden, he’s one of my favorite writers—both as a playwright and novelist.
So: Pennsylvania, here I come!
